On the road to Trim

County Meath has some of the best archeological sites in Ireland, unfortunately all except Newgrange, Mellifont Abbey, and Trim castle were open due to the Foot and Mouth precautions. Here are some pictures of Mellifont Abbey, and although we couldn't go in, there is a picture of the hill of Slane. It is said that on this hill St. Patrick lit the first paschal fire signalling to the local people, and their pagan king, that Christianity had arrived.
